One of the most famous Lotus sportcar models of the late 60's is set to make a return to the tracks this season after a break of three decades. The car is the one raced by John Miles and Jackie Oliver to a class victory in the 1967 Brands Hatch BOAC 500. The car is set to race in the Heritage GT events by Pat Thomas and Mike Youles. The car was named the 'Snorkel' because of its roof mounted air intakes and has been restored by Lotus guru Pat Thomas at his Kelvedon Motors workshops. Some 200 vintage racing cars will complete a lap of the famous Brooklands racing circuit on the 16/17 June 2007 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its opening. Organisers are hoping the event will become an annual fixture something similar to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The famous track, Britian's first racing circuit closed in 1939 and parts of the track, which opened in 1907, have been demolished. The organisers however are in talks with the local council and hope to link the remaining parts of the banked oval by closing public roads and building a temporary bridge. The Classic Sports Car Club has three meetings abroad in 2007, the Nurburgring, Nordschleife circuit, Spa and Daytona, as well as the UK major tracks feature in the clubs 2007 programme. After visting Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park and Silverstone, the series then visits the Nurburgring for a 100km race on September 22/23, followed by Spa in Belguim on October 21/22 and finishing in Daytona, America between November 3 - 13. Two of the biggest meetings of 2007, the WTCC and A1 GP meetings at Brands Hatch will be supported by the Heritage Historic GT Challenge. This is part of a high profile calendar for the Historic GTs which also support BTCC and F3/GT dates. | ||||

'Italian Job' stuntman Val Musetti's F3 Royale RP11 which he raced from new in 1971 is being offered for sale. The car was the No 2 chassis and sister car to the works car raced by Grand Prix driver Tom Pryce in late 1971 & 1972. The car was then converted to Atlantic spec. and disappeared somewhere in Europe finally being found in Germany. It was then rebuilt in F3 trim and sold to Michael Lathrop in the States. The car is now offered for sale by the original owner of Royale Alan Cornock on behalf of Lathron. What looks to be the most inportant race meeting for 500cc F3 competitors in 2007 is the Pau GP Historique meeting in May. The 500cc competitors will be given two practice sessions and a 20 minute race on this famous street circuit. There is expected to be drivers and machinery from France, Belguim and Sweden as well as the UK. Formula Ford took a step closer to bio-ethanol racing with a test by championship regular Jay Bridger of a car using a bio-ethanol engine. Jay was impressed by the power delivered by the engine at last weeks Silverstone test. The revolutionary engine is ready for next season but due to the financial implications of changing the powerplants could delay a complete switch over to racing green ! However Ford Team RS's Mike Norton is confident that the series will be running on the alternative fuel engines next year. |
