A special AC Cobra race is planed at Donington Park on May 1st. Some 30 AC's are expected to take part in the Shelby-Tojeiro Celebration Race. John Arnold of the ACOC expects half the grid to be Cobras. Top Hat boss Julius Thurgood hopes to make this a annual feature of the Donington Top Hat meeting Long time racer of Sports 2000 Jonathan Loader, will be racing his newly acquired ex Richard Budge Chevron B19 in 2006. Jonathan will be taking part in the Orwell Supersports Cup in the Gary Gunn prepared car. The 50th Anniversary of the Aston Martin DBR1 is the major theme of this years Silverstone Classic. The classic marque which won the 1959 Classic Le Mans 24 Hrs, will feature throughout the weekend. The british drivers heading for New Zealand to take part in the F5000 series have hit problems ! The boat transporting them has had engine failure. However local cars have been made available for most of the drivers to take part in the Pukekohe round and races at Ruapuna. Amanada Whitaker will be taking in more European Formula 2 in 2006. The Chevron B34 which she drives will be run by Vin Malkie Racing. The memorial service for the late Keith Duckworth OBE will be held at All Saints Chuch, George Row, Northampton, on Thursday 23rd February at 3pm. The Classic Sports Car Club is introducing a new class for V8's into its Swinging Sixties Series. The V8's will race by invitation only and must race on Dunlop Historic L or M tyres. The series will be over eight races starting at Snetterton on Easter Monday. Frank Lyons has taken over the series chairman of the Derek Bell Trophy on behalf of the Historic Sports Car Club. Being discussed are longer races and some double headers for 2006. Frank has raced regularly in this series in a series of F5000 cars. Simon Hadfield has bought the Ex Gus Hutchinson F5000 Lola T3000 to contest the Derek Bell Trophy in 2006. Simon who raced a Chevron B37 F5000 last season bought the Lola from Nick Rini. Lincoln Small tested his Brabham BT8 Sports Car at Donington just before Christmas. This was the first time Lincoln had tested the car in 18 months. The car spent a lot of time in United States and won the 1966 US Sports Car Championship. The Production Cup Saloon Car Championship has had more than 30 competitors showing interest for the 2006 series, which aims to bring back road going saloons to UK circuits. European Formula 2 Club and organisers of the Jocken Rindt F2 Trophy have come to agreement to run a single Historic Eurpoean F2 series in 2006. The series will have rounds at Silverstone in May and Brands Hatch Hatch in June. The Gentleman Drivers GT & Sports endurance series have a round at the 14 mile Nurburgring Nordschleife in August. The series now run by the Masters organisation will have its own 105 mile on the famous track on the Friday of the Oldtimers GP Meeting. The officials of the race are expecting a grid of some 60 cars. The BRDC Historic Sportscar Championship will be making a trip upto Knockhill to take part in the Scottish circuits Classic Meeting in late July. This is the first time that the series has ventured north of the border. This will make a nice change for Scottish based drivers John Clark, Barry and Tony Wood. Les Ely has just acquired the Ex Stirling Moss/Jack Brabham/Ivor Bueb Cooper bobtail. Les will be racing the 1956 1480cc Coventry Climax machine both in the UK and abroad during 2006. The VSCC's Loton Park Hillclimb has finally been set for the weekend of 15/16 July. This means the event will no longer clash with its SEE RED meeting at Donington Park. Janine Payne is to race the Arrows A5/6 in this seasons Thoroughbred GP Series. Janine will transfer from the Arrows A4 she raced successfully last season, where she scored a podium finish at Lausitzring in 2005. The Historic Sports Car Club will have two major meetings on the Brands Hatch GP circuit in 2006. As well as the traditional annual Superprix run on the weekend of 6/7 May, the club will be also be in charge of a meeting on the weekend of 3/4 June. The most successful Club Formula Ford racer to race in championship races in the north west, will receive the Graham Peacock Trophy. Graham an original member of the Aintree Racing Club was father of racer Richard Peacock, who was involved in the birth of the Anglesey Racing Circuit. A chance meeting between Jonathan Palmer & Adrian Newey has led to the addition of Oulton Park & Donington Park to this years Tour Britannia. The event which runs from 5th to the 8th of September will again be making trips to Cadwell Park and Mallory Park but will not return to Silverstone. The event which will be based at the Coombe Abbey Hotel is open to road legal pre '76 sports & saloon cars. The Lotus 49 that Jim Clark took to his last Grand Prix victory, the 1968 South African GP at Kyalami, will the star exhibit at Historic Motorsport Show at Stoneleigh Park. The car was never updated to a 49B specification and remains exactly as it was raced 38 years ago. The new K Club series for Appendix K historic saloon cars will start at Silverstone on April 23rd. The European seven event series which will cater for pre-66' and pre-77' cars has a second UK event at Snetterton on the 8th/9th July. The family of the late Roger Hurst who built the Lenham Hurst sports-racing cars in the late 1960's, is planning to create a Lenham Hurst Register. His company which was formed in 1963 has records of ten cars being built. The family still has body moulds and jigs and can supply most parts to any owners. The ten year old FISC Euro/Tour race series for Austin Healey Sprites & MG Midgets will include models with the BMC 'A' series engine for 2006. The pan-European series takes in circuits such as Dijon & Zandvoort. "We have enjoyed friendly competition for more than ten years and I have to admit we have been Europe's best kept secret" said its founder Pieter Bakker. |
